undernet user modes

User modes are modes that can only be set by yourself for yourself.
+d
set: /mode nickname +d
unset: /mode nickname -d
Causes you to not see anything that is typed in channel. You will still see topics, kick messages, etc. This mode is often used for channel bots.
If a user is set +d and you do a /whois it will show -#channel1 -#channel2 ..
+i
set: /mode nickname +i
unset: /mode nickname –i

Allows you to be invisible to anyone who does not specifically know your nickname. /who, /whois and /who #channel will not find you when you are +i

+r
set: /mode nickname +r
unset: /mode nickname –r

This mode allows you to receive notices between servers. Undernet no longer allows regular users to use +r mode.

+w
set: /mode nickname +w
unset: /mode nickname -w

Any user set to +w will be able to see conversation between IRC ops. These are rarely used anymore.

+x
set: login to X, then type /mode nickname +x

unset: the only way to unset this mode is to /quit

This mode allows a user to mask his/her IP. Instead, other users will see “your_username.users.undernet.org”. This prevents certain types of attacks. File transfer or DCC chat will reveal your IP.
The only way to undo this mode is to /quit.

undernet channel modes

These modes are set by channel operators for their specific channel.
You must be opped to use these modes.
+o
/mode #channelname +o nick
This will give the specified user, operator status in your channel.
+v
/mode #channelname +v nick
This will “voice” the specified user. Voiced users can be heard in “moderated” channels.
+b
/mode #channelname +b nick or host

This bans the specified user from being active in the channel. If a user is banned while in the channel, he will not be able to “send text to the channel”. If the user is outside the channel, he/she will not be able to rejoin.
+D/+d (Delayed join)
/mode #channelname +D

If a channel is set to +D users joining the channel wont be shown until something "happens to them". This means when a user joins the channel he/she remains "hidden" untill he speaks, gets opped/voiced etc. Only at this point the join will be displayed. If the channel is set to -D again and there are still "hidden" users in the channel, the server will set mode +d until the last one is visible or left the channel. "Hidden" users are shown by /names -d #channel. This mode is to prevent the disruption of channel discussions where lots of users are joining without them actualy talking.
If you /whois a user that is still hidden the channelname will show as <#channel
+R (Registered Channel)
non user setable/changable mode

+R channel mode can only be set or reset by remote users (or servers) or with /opmode. This can be used by X to indicate that a channel is registered, a sentinal that C can use to decide when it is legal to reop a channel.

The following modes can be set by double left-clicking in the channel window or by typing the specified command.
These modes can be unset by using a “–“ instead of a “+”.
+i
/mode #channelname +i
This mode makes the channel “invite only”. If you are an op, you can invite users to your channel by typing /invite nick #channelname.
+k
/mode #channelname +k keyword
This mode will set a password for your channel so that only those users who know the key can enter the channel. To join a “keyed” channel type /join #channelname keyword.
+l
/mode #channelname +l number
This mode limits how many users can be in your channel at the same time.
+m
/mode #channelname +m
Only ops and voiced users will be able to send text to the channel.
+n
/mode #channelname +n
No external messages will be able to be sent to the entire channel. Otherwise, a user outside the channel could /msg #channel even though they are not present in the channel. If +n is not set, their words would appear just as if they were inside the channel.
+p
/mode #channelname +p
When this mode is set on a channel, and someone outside of that channel does a /whois on a user that is currently in the channel, the channel name will not be shown, however the channel name will be shown on the channels list that can be seen using /list command.
+r
/mode #channelname +r
Only users who are logged into X may enter a +r channel, however, an operator within the channel can invite a non-registered user to join.
+s
/mode #channelname +s
When this mode is set on a channel, and someone outside the channel does a /whois on a user that is currently in the channel, the channel name will not be shown.

Additionally, the channel name will NOT be shown on the channels list that can be seen using /list command.
+t
/mode #channelname +t
Only ops will be able to change the channel topic
